Citing financial reasons, the University will not be a tenant in the North Minneapolis Child and Family Service Center as previously planned, Robert Jones, University Vice President for System Academic Administration, said in a statement .

“It is simply not fiscally possible for the University to commit to a major capital project of this magnitude at this time,” he said.

Despite the plan to leave the center, Jones said the University would continue its efforts in the community, specifically through the Urban Research Outreach/Engagement Center on Plymouth Ave.

That $4.4 million center will be open in early 2009 and will include programs for the area, according to the statement.
