A top University of Minnesota administrator stopped by the sit-in on West Bank to talk to protesters Wednesday afternoon.
On the third day of the protest inside the Social Sciences Building, Office for Student Affairs Chief of Staff Amelious Whyte visited to address the group’s demands.
UMN Solidarity’s demands include decreasing the hike in student tuition and allowing students and faculty to vote on members of the Board of Regents.
While the students told Whyte the protest has goals, their main agenda is to encourage student outreach and solidarity, and they hope other members of the University community will join the cause.
The meeting was in response to the letter protesters sent to Vice Provost for Student Affairs Jerry Rinehart and the regents Wednesday laying out official demands of the University.
“Some of these demands are lofty,” the letter reads. “A great place to start finding funds would be in your salaries.”
