What would Saint Paul look like if we eliminated the achievement gap?

Our neighborhoods would be stronger, both economically and socially. We would see the growth of local businesses, thanks to greater innovation and a more educated workforce. There would be lower crime rates and greater civic engagement. Saint Paul would be a thriving, diverse city.
Tutoring is a part of the solution to eliminate the achievement gap and strengthen our community. To graduate on time and be prepared for life after high school, research shows that students must be reading at grade level by 3rd grade and proficient in algebra by 8th grade. The Tutoring Partnership, a program of the Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation, helps connect community members to a concrete and effective way to support learning-by giving one hour a week as a tutor.
Throughout Saint Paul, schools and community programs are proving that tutoring works! Volunteer tutors are actively working to decrease the achievement gap in 28 community-based programs and 41 schools in Saint Paul. Tutoring programs offer a unique opportunity for community volunteers to provide students with the extra support they need to succeed.
On March 8th, we invite you to Tutoring Works: A Community Conversation and Celebration. It is an opportunity to learn more about tutoring in Saint Paul as we celebrate the exceptional work of current volunteers. In addition to a reception and tutoring program showcase, Superintendent Valeria Silva will be speaking about the collaborative effort needed to achieve Strong Schools, Strong Communities. For those interested in tutoring, the ABCs of Reading Training will be held after the reception, as well as a workshop on how to engage your community in volunteer tutoring in Saint Paul.
Please join us at Tutoring Works! A Community Conversation and Celebration on March 8th, 4:30-5:30pm Reception, Wilder Foundation, 451 Lexington Parkway North, Saint Paul
The event is free and open to the public.
