Summit Hill House Tour seeks volunteers to open their doors

Dear Summit Hill Neighbors,

I’m Ann Nerland, and together with Betty Schweizer – we are co-chairing the Sept. 9th Summit Hill House Tour this fall. My husband, Bruce, and I have lived in the Summit Hill neighborhood for 20 years and feel very fortunate to be part of such a vibrant community. Like many Summit Hill neighbors, we’ve renovated our house in stages. And in one sense, think of ourselves as stewards of the art and architecture of our 120-year-old home. We live in a unique place.

The Summit Hill House Tour is always a celebration of this unique neighborhood. Planning for this year’s Tour is well underway. Mark your calendars for September 9th from noon until 6 p.m. We have some fabulous houses and public spaces that offer a fascinating glimpse into St. Paul history, and an inspiring array of unique interiors and exteriors.

Once again, we are fortunate to have the support of Warners’ Stellian, a locally owned appliance retailer. They have graciously offered to be the Summit Hill House Tour’s title sponsor and we’re grateful for their continued support of the Summit Hill House Tour. Visit the Warners’ Stellian website at and please, support their business! Keep in mind that proceeds from the Summit Hill House Tour are a major source of funding to support the SHA office and all of our programming.

The Summit Hill House Tour is made possible by the homeowners, who have generously opened their homes, and the 300-plus dedicated and talented volunteers who help us each year. Tim Pramas, former SHA President, has once again agreed to offer his expertise in organizing the house tour volunteers. Rob Spence, who lives on Lombard, will have our website up and running shortly, where tickets and tour information will be available. The house tour website will be found at www.SummitHillHouseTour. com. You can also visit the Summit Hill Association website at which will have some information and a link on the home page to the special House Tour website.

There are many opportunities for volunteering and involvement! Think about being a house volunteer. Or buy a ticket to support the Summit Hill House Tour. Give us your thoughts and ideas. If you have a business, consider advertising in the tour brochure. (Ad sales are a great source of revenue for us and a wonderful way to put your business in front of tour participants who may be future customers!)

If you are interested in volunteering your time and talent, have ideas to share or have a comment, please contact either Betty Schweizer at 651-295-9823 or Ann Nerland at 651-283-7855.
