All that stage diving appears to have taken a toll on Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. According to press secretary Jeremy Hanson, the mayor will be undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee on Thursday.
Rybak injured his knee last summer while diving off the Gay Men’s Chorus float in the Pride parade, Hanson said, and it’s been bothering him throughout the campaign. “He hasn’t been taking very good care of himself,” Hanson said.
Rybak, who turned 50 last Saturday, was last seen diving from the stage of the Ukrainian Activities Center after his victory speech on election night. He’s expected to be hobbling around with a knee brace for several days after his surgery.
