The RNC Welcoming Committee posted a link to the 24-page GOP Express guide on July 3. As described by the RNC-WC, the plan is “a rundown of proposed delegate transportation plans, including maps and photos.” The RNC-WC describes itself as “an anarchist / anti-authoritarian organizing body preparing for the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.”
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that the plan may be several months out of date, and quoted St. Paul Police Commander Doug Schultz as saying that the department is planning for a convention, not a catastrophe.
In Minneapolis, the Star Tribune quoted St. Paul police spokesperson Pete Panos as saying, “Are we using buses? Yes. Are we going to let the anarchists block the roads? No.”
The RNC Welcoming Committee is one of more than a dozen groups planning to protest the Republican National Convention in September, including the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War, which includes more than 100 organizations.
