Refugee winter clothing drive at downtown bars this weekend

by Erica Mauter • Several downtown establishments—The Lounge, ENVY, AQUA, drink, and Spin—are participating in a winter clothing drive for refugees, sponsored by the International Institute of Minnesota. Many refugees are spending their first winter in Minnesota and are quite possibly unprepared for it.

(A friend of mine from college grew up in Florida. She’d never been up north before. She bought her winter coat in Florida because it was cheaper. She regretted that.)

The clothing drive started Nov 14. It’s ongoing through Nov 23, so if you’re out downtown this weekend, this is your chance.

If you donate two or more items at The Lounge, Envy, Aqua or Spin then you will gain complimentary admission (for that evening) and a free drink ticket/voucher.Only good for the place you donate to.

The free admission offer is only good on nights the club is charging a normal cover, (not valid for special events), however, you can still receive the drink ticket for donating to the cause!

If you donate ten or more items at The Lounge, Envy, Spin, Drink or Aqua, then you will gain complimentary admission (for that evening) and a free drink ticket/voucher even on a special event night.

Here’s an idea: You know those those people who refuse to acknowledge how cold it is because you look so damn cute in your inappropriate-for-the-weather outfit and thus suffer shivering through the streets of the Warehouse District? You know, those people.

Those people should wear their gently used coats, hats, boots, scarves, and mittens/gloves to the club, then leave them there. With their free admission and/or free drinks, they’ll be that much more boozed up and won’t notice the cold anyway.
