Radio mnartists: Gulgun Kayim

Producer Marya Morstad continues the “Radio mnartists” series of web and radio interviews with Minnesota artists. Listen to her interview with Gulgun Kayim “here”:

Skewed Visions was created ten years ago by theater graduate students Gulgun Kayim, Sean Kelley-Pegg and Charles Campbell who found they shared a similar aesthetic. Their site-specific, multidisciplinary approach to theater continues to challenge, intrigue and stimulate audiences in ever-changing, non-theatrical venues.

Their current production, “Days and Nights” is a trilogy of inventive and experimental work by each member of the collective, which features a labyrinth of rooms and corridors where hidden worlds are revealed. The performances are set in the historic Grain Belt Office Building in Northeast Minneapolis.

Gulgun was recently selected by the Creative Capital Foundation, (based out of NYC), to produce a new interdisciplinary work titled “Self Portrait,” which explores memory and identity, using Kayim’s own Turkish Cypriot history, and is slated for a premiere at the Walker Art Center in 2008 as well as to audiences in London and Cyprus. Kayim was the only Minnesota artist selected this year to receive Creative Capital support.

Skewed Visions presents DAYS AND NIGHTS A fascinating and diverse immersive exploration of isolation, myth and memory New works by Gülgün Kayim, Charles Campbell, Sean Kelley-Pegg.
