The National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express are planning to give away one million dollars to support historic sites in the Twin Cities area, and they’re doing it through Facebook.
Today marks the first day people can go to a Facebook page to identify the Twin Cities historic site that they think is most deserving of preservation money.
The Facebook page can be found at: www.facebook.com/PartnersinPreservation
Twenty five sites in the metro area have been chosen to compete for the funds – the names will be announced at a press conference at 10 o’clock this morning at the James J. Hill Library in St. Paul.
Advocates of each site were allowed to request up to 125 thousand dollars. The top vote getter on Facebook will receive its full requested amount, and remaining funds will be split among some of the remaining candidates.
KFAI’s Amanda Balagur talked with Royce Yeater of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and asked him if this was about historic preservation or online engagement. [Audio below]
