Cherie Honkala, leader of the Poor People’s Economic and Human Rights Campaign, speaks to the crowd
The crowd gathered in Mears Park listened to music and speeches.
A variety of signs delivered the common messages of the marchers
A variety of protesters appeared, too.
Some marched to a different drummer.
The indictment of the country’s leaders was delivered, wrapped in a flag, as close to the Xcel Center as marchers could get. Security guards would not pick it up or deliver it inside the RNC. Most of the Poor People’s March participants had gone back down the street, but a group of young people remained in the intersection at 7th and St. Peter. Police ordered them to disperse. They did not. Then came the tear gas.
