I was delighted to enter the Ped Pex Power Pod and see my friends play old-time music. The pod was made by relatives of the fiddler, Lulu Gals’ Shawn Glidden; in the pod, you pedal for coffee and for circuit-bending electronic music by Tim Kaiser of Duluth. (In this case you don’t pay to play, you pedal to play.) Goose chase clogger Ann Carter was on banjo, and Adam Brainard (Mill City Grinders) was on guitar. As everywhere, it was filled to the max with beaming participants and observers. One was Amanda, a co-creator of the Word Shanty, who encouraged me to go to her shanty and take a book.
