Optimism prevails as OccupyMN opens in Minneapolis

Approximately 500 activists showed up at the Hennepin County Government Center plaza Friday morning for the beginning of OccupyMN — which is happening simultaneously with “Occupy Wall Street” protests nationwide.

Ages in Minneapolis ranged from 6 months to 92 years — most from the metropolitan Twin Cities area. Some were curious and apprehensive, others were motivated and expectant.

The training begins at 3 p.m., a welcoming celebration is at 5, and the General Assembly convenes at 7. Quiet hour starts at 11 p.m. A few sleeping bags were visible, though overnight sleeping on the plaza is still uncertain.
