I admit that anxiety was running high on Friday, knowing that my debut Fringe stage performance in Fashion Risk or the Accidental Nudist would be happening in a few short hours. It’s all fun and games until you’re standing behind the curtain in the dark, hearing the murmurings of a packed house full of people – and the abject terror sinks in. Then we’re on and we’re off like a train on fire and the feeling that death is imminent passes and hearing the reaction of the audience is awesome. When my husband saw our tech rehearsal, he assured me afterwards that I could pretty much fall off the stage and not ruin the show. I didn’t want to test that assertation, however. Luckily, all went very well, the show sold out, Natalie was a superstar and reviews are raving. Exhale. Make reservations if you want to see me naked. There will be no private showings if you miss the performance. We’re up again Sunday at 2:30 at Mixed Blood.
Martin Dockery’s reputation preceded him (photo above). He has been to pretty much every Fringe Festival that exists. I fell for both him and his frenetic, smart, crazed storytelling immediately upon seeing his preview at the Out of Towners’ Showcase Wednesday night. And his full show is terrific. Riveting verbalized stream of consciousness. Hang on tight and enjoy the ride. One of the highlights of 2013, without question. I know it’s only the second day, but there’s no doubt. See Wanderlust Sunday at 4 at the Rarig Thrust.
I caught Clutterbug at Mixed Blood just prior to my show, so I would be safely in the venue and ready to go. It’s a very sweet show, and I won’t be able to give it due credit because the high pitched stress whine in my brain was increasing in volume as I sat and did meditative breathing in the back row of the theater. See it without the shroud of anxiety 4:00 on Sunday at Mixed Blood.
