Thanks to the hard (but cheerful!) work of dozens of volunteers, Lyndale Avenue filled with happy crowds of bikers, skaters, and pedestrians on June 10 for Minneapolis’s second Open Streets event. I was one of many photographers capturing the smiles for the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, the nonprofit organization that presents Open Streets; I serve on the Coalition’s board of directors.
Though he’d been spinning at First Avenue until 2 a.m., DJ Sovietpanda had his decks ready to rock bright and early in front of Tiger Sushi.
Gorilla Yogis led a mass yoga session—and of course, they brought their gorilla.
Mayor R.T. Rybak posed for a group portrait on the yoga mats.
Muddy Waters was one of the many local businesses that enjoyed the patronage of big crowds out to enjoy the Open Street.
Emma Barber sold refreshments at the French Meadow Bakery & Cafe.
Among the local celebrities spotted on Lyndale were Christian Dahlager of We Became Actors; and Books & Bars host Jeff Kamin.
