“Last year’s Northern Spark all-night art event was, to be frank, very awesome,” write the editors of Secrets of the City. “After success like that, it’s a bit of a bummer to hear the event might be in jeopardy for this year.”
I agree that it’s a bummer, but I’m not surprised: while last year’s all-night arts event featured a number of memorable events, it was my impression that it was spread much too thinly between Minneapolis and St. Paul. A more focused event—perhaps concentrating on the corridor running up Hennepin—would have created a much more festive, social feel.
SOTC reports that the Northern Spark organizers are seeking sponsors, and have launched a Kickstarter campaign for funding. With 50 days remaining, the campaign is $1,450 of the way to a $10,000 goal.
While efforts to secure funding continue, preparations for a 2012 event continue apace, with calls for participation proposals now open. The sparks, it seems, are still flying—at least for now.
Coverage of issues and events affecting Central Corridor communities is funded in part by a grant from the Central Corridor Collaborative.
