The Chinese New Year celebration that began February 3 comes to a glorious end with the Lantern Festival that welcomes the new year with all of the pomp and circumstance befitting the Year of the Rabbit. Yinghua Academy, located in Northeast Minneapolis, will host hundreds of parents, neighbors and supporters with a Lantern Festival Gala and Silent Action set for Saturday, February 19, 2011. 7:00-11:00 p.m. The Gala will be held at Shelter Studios, an elegant commercial photography studio located at 2212 Broadway Street NE, in Northeast Minneapolis.
Entertainment will be provided by The New Standards, a “hot” jazz trio known to locals from their appearances at Twin Cities jazz clubs, on MPR, on the video of their performance at The Ritz which was recorded for TPT’s Minnesota Original. The Star Tribune describes the New Standards as “a unique jazz trio making a splash around the world with their personality-laden brand of heartfelt, engaging performance and extraordinary musicality.” Best of all, trio member John Munson is a Yinghua parent.
One feature of the Lantern Festival is a huge silent auction; auction items are listed on the Gala website which also includes full information about reservations and more. Tickets for the Gala are available for $40 each through Paypal or mail. Guests are invited to purchase a ticket for a Yinghua teacher.
