January 14: Holiday Tree, Wreath and Garland Composting
After the holidays are finished, compost your natural tree, wreath or garland at the Midway area Yard Waste site.  Yard Waste sites are free of charge for Ramsey County residents – just make sure you bring proof of residency with you!  The Midway site will be open to take holiday greenery on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 9am – 5pm and on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 11 am – 5pm.  For a map of the location, please visit www.co.ramsey.mn.us/ph/rt/midway.htm.

Before heading to the site, make sure you remove all tree bags, stands, tinsel, ornaments, or other items that cannot be composted.  Garlands and wreaths must be free of metal frames – for greenery with attached wire frames, please visit the Ramsey County A-Z guide at www.co.ramsey.mn.us/ph/rt/a_to_z_disposal_guide.htm.

January 18: Public Hearing regarding Bikeway Improvements on Griggs Street
A Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Court House, for approving the bikeway improvements on Griggs St. between Summit Ave. and Minnehaha Ave. by improving the pedestrian and bicycle environment along the corridor. The project also includes traffic calming with traffic circles and bumpouts, bicycle specific pavement markers and destination/directional signs, dynamic speed display signs, bike/ped signal detection technology, and improved street lighting.

January 25: Midway Local Food Resource Hub Kick-Off
Learn how you can help build a strong local food system in our community at the Midway Local Food Resource Hub Kick-Off on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00pm at the Hamline Midway Library (1558 W. Minnehaha). Together with your neighbors, you can gain access to low-cost seeds and plants, gardening workshops, a tool lending library, newly-established community gardens, and more to expand gardening and healthy food access in our community. Come learn about local food opportunities in the neighborhood and join the discussion to build on these efforts. Light refreshments and children’s activities will be provided. February 11: Aldine Park 2012 Winter Carnival

Noon-4pm

Come and join your neighbors for a day of fun, games and fresh air on the Ice at Aldine Park! There will be open skating, broomball and hockey demonstrations and pick-up games, and free hot chocolate and coffee!  Bring your cup and a snack to share.

Aldine Park is located at Iglehart Avenue and Aldine Street.
