NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES | Gods and Monsters in Northeast Minneapolis

Print

The Eastside Food Coop conjures images of parents with toddlers in grocery carts, Northeast residents seeking high quality ethnic food and a mix of community groups meeting in the Granite Studio to discuss politics, education, the environment of community development.

On the third Sunday of the month the atmosphere shifts as the conversation at the Granite Studio turns to Gods & Monsters. It’s the monthly gathering of a free Twin Cities group engaged in reading and discussing books on religion and myth. The discussion is moderated by Kristin Boldon, M.A. in Religious Studies.

Next on the group’s reading list: – On Sunday July 17, the avid readers will be talking about Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. Virginia Wolff’s Mrs. Dalloway is on the agenda for Sunday, August 31.

The Gods & Monsters group meets from 4:00-5:30 at EFC, 2551 Central Avenue NE, just North of Lowry. The Granite Studio is an inviting venue for a lively chat about gods, monsters and the joy of good reading. Street parking only – the lot is reserved for EFC customers – better yet, shop at the Coop and you can park in the lot.

Gods and Monsters are on Facebook.

Neighborhood Notes are updates about what’s happening in Twin Cities neighborhoods, submitted by our volunteer neighborhood correspondents (and neighborhood residents), and not edited by the TC Daily Planet. Click to learn more about becoming a neighborhood correspondent.
