The fact of the matter is, following your dreams is SCARY. You will be scared out of your mind. I will not sugarcoat it. You will be confused, uncertain, and you will feel ALONE! Wow, this all sounds TERRIBLE so far, right?! Well, just wait, it gets worse… You are going to doubt yourself along the way, and feel like you will break at any moment. You’ll want to give up. You are going to find out that all of your friends, and most of your family does not know what it takes to follow a dream. Most of them have decided to go the typical, 9-5 route, working for a company that may or may not advance them, may or may not reward them, and they will complain to you every Monday about how “Friday cannot come fast enough!”…And they will tell you that you NEED to do the same.
My advice to you… LET IT HAPPEN. Let all of the above happen to you.
Let it happen because all of what I described ultimately makes the dream worthwhile! All of the pain, suffering, crying nights, trying to figure out where that next dollar is going to come from, IS ALL WORTH IT. You will find out that you are stronger than you had ever imagined. You’ll learn who was worth your time and energy, who was really ever there for you, and who is in your way. Ultimately you will learn that your dream isn’t just a dream, it is your reality… If you truly want it to be. Nothing comes to you. You have to go out and get it.
People are going to tell you that you cannot do it. They will tell you NOT to do it. That you should just focus on a steady, passive career that will give you peace of mind… They WILL doubt you… Then, once you begin to do it, they will be upset with you. People HATE to see others doing things that they are too damn scared to do themselves. They will hate you until you become successful at it…
Lets be real. EVERYONE has dreams. I don’t care who you are. You don’t grow up saying, “You know what, when I get older, I want to sell something for a company!”. Not that those are bad professions. In fact, many people love it. But as I said, it is not what people WANT to be doing. They are good at it, so they do it. That doesn’t mean that they are happy. You see, most people live life working a job that leaves them unfulfilled, mad at the world, and only allows them the freedom to do what they want, upon allowable time from the company. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that life. For many, if not most, it works out fine. However, those people very rarely LIVE and appreciate the beauty that life possesses.
So my advice to you is simple. Kind of…
LIVE. DREAM. LAUGH. CRY. Do all of that. But ALWAYS remember to dream, because when you stop, it means that you have settled for your current reality. Never settle. Let everything that comes along with what following your dreams entails. It will hurt. It will suck at times. It will be scary. You WILL cry. You WILL want to quit. DON’T. You will fight a battle within you. WIN that battle. Remain confident, and tackle it all head first. Never be afraid to ask for help. People are put into our lives for a reason. Somewhere, there is a person that knows how to get something you are seeking. Make friends, network, and NEVER burn bridges.
Lastly, BE HAPPY. BE AT PEACE. LOVE YOUR LIFE…and… PROTECT YOUR DREAM, because someone WILL try to destroy it, or claim it as their own.
You might not ever be wealthy (depending on what your dreams are), but you will be fulfilled. Your soul will be at peace. You will be happy.
FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.
