Director: ANDREY PAOUNOV
Residents of small sleepy Danube river town in northern Bulgaria, site of a onetime concentration camp, seem to have little else to worry about than the “zanzar problem” (giant mosquitoes) …. well, perhaps the half-built nuclear power station.
Prize-winning filmmaker Paounov’s witty documentary features a colorful cast of characters who engage in a wild boar hunt and other means of battling the “zanzars.” Director Paounov’s (A Short Film about Yuri Gagarin) masterful tone and delight in the messy complexity of former Soviet bloc history has made this documentary one of the most-sought on the fest circuit.
