Nancy Anderson, a pastor in the United Church of Christ and a WIN
board member, spoke about the public forum held on December 8 on the
problems with Hannon Security. "We heard about the racial
dicrimination charges against Hannon by their own officers, and the
low standards of health insurance and wages. At that forum, we signed
a pledge to raise standards for security officers in our community,
and we decided to send a delegation to try to set up a meeting with
one of Hannon's biggest customers: United properties," Anderson said.
Anderson also brought to mind words from Dr. Martin Luther King who
often spoke about "bringing the walls of Jericho down so that
African-Americans could know the promise of racial and economic
justice in our community." Anderson concluded with a call to action,
"Today, in Honor of King, we will process peacefully through a series
of buildings managed by United Properties and served by Hannon
Security. We will do so in the hope and belief that our actions will
bring down the walls that separate security officers from the promise
of a living wage, real health security, and racial justice. Are you
prepared to be part of this Jericho procession? If so, signify by
saying, "I am!"
