Last night the House voted, by a 268-155 margin, to allocate an additional $162.5-billion in funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The measure will provide funding through the end of President Bush’s term.
The Minnesota delegation was split on the measure. Reps. Betty McCollum, Keith Ellison and James Oberstar voted against the package, while Collin Peterson and Tim Walz supported it. All three Republican legislators backed the funding. The Senate is slated to consider the measure next week. If ultimately enacted Congress will have allocated roughly $800billion for the two wars.
