KSTP-TV, whose St. Paul station headquarters is on University Avenue just across the street from Prospect Park, is reporting that a man was fatally shot Monday morning outside its building on Berry Avenue, about 25 yards north of University Avenue. Police from both Minneapolis and St. Paul responded and are investigating.

According to the KSTP website, one man was shot dead on the sidewalk at approximately 3 a.m. Monday. A KSTP employee heard six gunshots and saw two young men walking away from the scene. The witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said the two men left the scene in a van.

Ken Miller, a retired police officer who works as a guard at the station, also witnessed the scene and called 911. He is quoted as saying, “I went out and checked on the man and he was obviously DOA.”

Police do not believe that the shooting was random. Sgt. Cory Tell of the St. Paul Police Department says the homicide unit has several leads that they are investigating.

The Prospect Park neighborhood also had a crime alert issued for the area on Friday after a woman walking to her car on University and Arthur Avenues was raped by a stranger on Sunday, May 21, at approximately 2 a.m. To see the text of the crime alert, as well as safety suggestions from the police, go “here”:http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crimealert/032950.asp.
