Made in Minnesota 2010: A sustainable, local shopping season

Freezing at 4am to get a deal on a holiday gift has become a new Thanksgiving tradition. It might be a good individual bargain, but where’s the long-term community value in that purchase?

Buying locally, from an independent merchant has been proven to keep more money at home–68 cents vs. 43 cents. An even bigger impact comes from buying environmentally-sustainable, Minnesota-manufactured products sold in locally owned stores. It’s a tough trifecta to make, but has a big payout for all of your neighbors.
