Let’s give credit where credit is due. Yes, the volunteers did a wonderful job of helping to save Landmark Center, but it was the Federal government that made it happen. Two things:
1. A change in the Federal law allowed the Feds to give the building to the county without charge! True, Congressman Karth gave a cerimonous one dollar, but actually it was free. You don’t need nearly as many restoration dollars when you don’t have to pay for the building.
2. Work had to meet national preservation standards. The local designers worked with the National Park Service to ensure that the proposed designs were appropriate.
