Is Kiffmeyer taking orders from Ritchie?

DFL secretary of state endorsee Mark Ritchie announced today that he will document Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer’s unwillingness to “implement Minnesota’s election laws” at a Tuesday press conference at the State Capitol.

Though the Ritchie campaign would not divulge the documentation that will be revealed on Tuesday, it’s believed to involve Kiffmeyer’s tendency to treat Republican incumbents a bit differently from other candidates.

This latest challenge to Kiffmeyer comes on the heels of Ritchie’s demand earlier this week that Kiffmeyer readjust the state’s filing fees. Coincidentally (according to the Kiffmeyer campaign), she announced Thursday that she was readjusting the filing fees, a move that led me to ask Ritchie campaign manager James Haggar whether his candidate may be having more influence on the office he’s seeking than he might have expected.

“No comment,” said Haggar. “You’ll have to ask Mark about that.”
