So someone in your group wants Chinese food while another wants Mexican, another American, another pizza, and another Middle Eastern, where do you go? The new Midtown Global Market at Lake Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis offers all of these cuisines and more.
Located in the old Sears Building, the Midtown Global Market offers a variety of worldwide flavors to eat on site or to have delivered. It also offers around-the-world shopping boutiques and international markets featuring fresh produce, fish and meat. There is even a branch of United Noodles.
It has taken years to develop, but the 1928 Sears store and distribution center is now a hub of activity anchored by the Midtown Exchange apartments with a new Sheraton nearby for out-of-town guests. Adjacent to the Abbott/Northwestern Medical complex, the project also features opportunities for small shops and restaurants.
On a recent visit we spotted Chai Tea at the Golden Thyme Coffee and Café, Tandori Chicken at the Holy Land Grocery & Deli, Mandarin Chicken Salad at Andy’s Garage, and a full Chinese menu at Pham’s Deli. There is also West Indies Soul Food, Manny’s Tortas, A La Salsa Restaurante Mexicano & Bar, Jakeeno’s Tratoria, Starlight Café, La Loma Tamales, Mapps Bakery and more.
Many of the restaurants are fast food operations surrounding a food court with tables and chairs. Some also offer delivery service within five miles of the center. A very family friendly atmosphere also provides distractions for the youngsters. Adults can wonder through boutiques selling everything from arts and crafts, to jewelry, rugs and flowers. And on Thursday, there is even a farmer’s market.
For more information on breakfast, lunch or dinner deliveries, call MGM Room Service at 612-870-1820 or visit their website at www.mgmroomservice.com. They also arrange for deliveries for large groups and meetings.
But the next time each person in your group wants a different cuisine, remember Midtown Global Market. Even breakfasts can be interesting with Espresso and Bagels from Mapps, Hueves Con Jamon from La Loma, or Muffins from Starlight Café. Several restaurants also offer box lunches with an international flavor. Manny’s Tortas features their special special Mexican sandwiches; West Indies Soul Food offers a West Indies Pasta Salad or Jerk Chicken Sandwich on Coco Bread. Andy’s Garage has a Bag Lunch with sandwich choices, and Pham’s Deli has a variety of lunch specials including Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Tiger Pork.
Midtown Global Market is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with parking at meters at the curb or in lots across the street.
