Prospect Park United Methodist Church presents the opening performance of its 2012-13 Concert Series with, “Hard Times: Songs & Tunes of the Civil War Era,” Saturday, September 15, at 7:30 pm. North or South, black or white, at home or in camp, much of the music from this turbulent time remains embedded as an important and integral part of America’s collective consciousness. This engaging retrospective will present many of these familiar songs, along with insightful commentary and narration to provide additional interest and historical perspective.
“Hard Times: Songs & Tunes of the Civil War Era” will be performed by a talented group of well-known musicians from the Twin Cities folk and cultural music community. They include: Chuck Boody, Sandi Boody, Laura Dillon, Karen Radford, Mike Regouski, Karen Krueger, Jim Ahrens, Jeanette Anderson and Mark Anderson.
The performance will take place in the historic sanctuary of Prospect Park United Methodist Church, located at 22 Orlin Avenue SE in Minneapolis. There is no admission fee, and a freewill offering will be taken to support the work of rebuilding Walker Community United Methodist Church in south Minneapolis in the wake of last spring’s devastating fire.
The 2012-13 Prospect Park UMC Concert Series features a wide range of Twin Cities artists and musical genres in support of a variety of local charities and non-profit organizations. For more information, visit www.prospectparkchurch.org, or call 612-378-2380.
