I owe it to the Grownup Noise, a Massachusetts foursome, for helping me trace the plain and gentle phrasing of Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and Stars’ Torquil Campbell back to its root: James Taylor. Grownup Noise frontman Paul Hansen has elements of all three, and the band’s eponymous LP is a pleasant listen buoyed by Katie Franich’s tasteful cello work. The group will be at the Acadia tonight.
