Fun in the village: St. Anthony’s Annual Village Fest

St. Anthony’s Annual Village Fest celebration started out with a pre-event project July 31 and Aug 1, called “It Takes a Village: Feed My Starving Children,” held in the High School Commons (photo below). In the two days, 627 volunteers packed 123,416 meals into 576 boxes, for shipment to needy people in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.

The main event kicked off Friday, Aug 3, when the St. Anthony Chamber of Commerce sponsored its annual golf tournament at Francis Gross Golf Course. Friday evening, the annual parade with more than 80 units went along St. Anthony Boulevard to the St. Anthony Shopping Center parking lot, where the evening street dance was held. Village Pub sponsored a bocce ball tournament.

Saturday activities included a 5K run, sponsored by Fitness Crossroad. Winners included Joe Louiselle (15:42); Chris Lawson (15:46) and Michael Greenstein (16:29).

In Central Park, activities included a Hula-Hoop contest at the main stage, a petting zoo, numerous food booths and organization booths, and music by Umbrella Bed, Blazing Saddles and Papa John and the Cool Club. Saturday evening ended with fireworks.

St. Anthony Community Theater performed Annie at the high school auditorium Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. On Sunday morning the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast was held at the Community Center.

Next year’s Village Fest is set for Aug. 2-4, 2013.
