Frogtown kids turn out for Shop with Cops in St. Paul

More kids than ever—that’s the report from St. Paul’s 10th annual Shop With Cops. The event, sponsored by donations from the Saint Paul Police Federation, Target Corporation, the Saint Paul Police Foundation and various community and business partners, takes place at St. Paul’s Midway Target store each year. With help from the Western District police, Frogtown youngsters shop for Christmas gifts for their families.

According to the city’s press release:

Shop with Cops was started in 2000 as a way to foster positive relationships between police officers and community youth with the event growing every year. In 2000, 50 kids and 15 officers participated in the event.

After the shopping spree, kids and cops return to the Western District station to wrap gifts and enjoy pizza and subs.

Boa Lee writes in E-Democracy:

The event helped approximately 200 neighborhood children and their families have a joyous holiday season. Kids were given a budget and allowed to buy presents for family members, with the assistance of a St. Paul police officer. Numerous volunteers were also on hand to help direct children and families, wrap presents and serve pizza and sub sandwiches.
