FREE SPEECH ZONE | Bus/LRT rider alert: Demonstration Tuesday!

Bus/LRT rider alert!  Though many who are dependent on public transit  have two or three jobs and an equal number of children, some of us need to speak up for all of us.

“Don’t X Out Public Transportation” is the uniting cry for a public transit rally on Tuesday, September 20, 10:00 a.m. at the Minneapolis Government Center Plaza (on 5th Street South between 3rd and 4th Avenue South.

The Rally responds to the fiscal crisis spawned by a federal proposal for a 35% cut in funding for public transit.  Everyone who rides the bus or LRT by necessity, by concern with the environment, and for convenience and economy knows that this means stripped down schedules, service delays, overcrowding, fare increases, and cuts to MTC staff.  Cuts also mean that willing workers will lack transportation to available jobs, particularly jobs that fall outside the Monday-Friday rush hour schedule.  Forget weekends.

Rally attendees will be wearing red and holding up prop buses.  The Minneapolis rally is one of several scheduled in the days to come at prime sites around the nation.
