Franken won.
The Minnesota Supreme Court’s unanimous decision concludes that “Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled under Minn. Stat. § 204C.40 (2008) to receive the certificate of election as United States Senator from the State of Minnesota.”
At a 3 p.m. press conference, Norm Coleman said he will not pursue the case any further, and that Al Franken will now be the senator from Minnesota.
MN Public Radio reports that Senator Harry Reid’s office intends to proceed: “Once the proper papers are received by the Sec. of the senate we can arrange his swearing in.” Full Reid statement.
Al Franken has scheduled a press conference for 4:15 p.m., after Norm Coleman’s 3:00 p.m. press conference. Basically everybody will cover the press conferences live – so tune in your radio or streaming video or Twitter feed, and watch this (perhaps final?) chapter in the seemingly never-ending Senate saga.
