WEDNESDAY PICK | Go see some darn fireworks

Our health care system is a boondoggle, inequality has been growing for decades, and every time voters are given the opportunity to ban gay marriage, they jump at it—but you know what? We’re still America. We’ve still got Neil Diamond and ice cream and Tavi Gevinson and tricycles and Spike Lee and beach balls and Beach Boys and boneless wings and Margaret Cho and boxcars and the Grand Canyon and Aretha Franklin and Wall Drug and Lena Dunham and Bob Dylan and most of Lake Superior and BLUE IVY CARTER, so there’s hope for us yet. Go see some fireworks—and if you need to bring a flask, I won’t judge you.
