Why not St. Paul? After all, St. Paul is the seat of government as well as the site of the Republican National Convention. In a phone interview, MizPee cofounder and president Peter Olfe admitted that the choice wasn’t necessarily logical. He chose Minneapolis, Olfe said, because his father lives in Golden Valley.
According to its press release:
The award-winning MizPee service, developed by Yojo Mobile (www.yojomobile.com), lets people on the go enter their location on their mobile browser to retrieve a list of nearby toilets and details of their conditions and amenities. MizPee tells users if the facilities are handicap accessible, whether or not there are diaper-changing stations, and if the toilet is designated for public use or restricted to customers only. Users who have visited specific restrooms and experienced conditions first-hand can enter their reviews on the www.mizpee.com website.
MizPee has national coverage, with user-based ratings for toilets in at least 25 cities. An international site, Youreapeein.com, rates–you guessed it—European cities’ amenities. Mizpee claims more than 3 million hits and more than 300,000 unique users in the past year. Users can also access toilet info by cell phone.
The contest runs through the end of August, and According to MizPee, “at the close of the contest, we will publicly recognize Minneapolis’ top voted restroom, and donate $1 per vote to the Minnesota Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
