This clip documents the only successful challenge of a TV license renewal in American media history. The WLBT case was significant because it established an American citizen’s right to speak at federal regulatory hearings, the right of standing. It’s from a program called ON TELEVISION: PUBLIC TRUST OR PRIVATE PROPERTY (1988). Hosted by the legendary Edwin Newman and written and directed by Mary Megee, this clip will be featured in a session at the National Conference for Media Reform in Minneapolis with George Stoney, Nicholas Johnson and Randall Pinkston.
