CAPI USA is excited to host the 11th Annual Twin Cities World Refugee Day Celebration on Sunday, July 16th from 1-5PM at Loring Park in Minneapolis. World Refugee Day is a family-oriented festival celebrating the many thousands of refugees in Minnesota through song, dance, food, and story. The purpose of the event is to provide a platform for refugee stories and artistic practices, to honor their lives, and to raise awareness for the millions of refugees in the world who have been forced to flee their homes.
St. Paul and Minneapolis have long been home to flourishing refugee communities that bring vibrant cultures and traditions right into our homes. Given the current political climate and the growing challenges refugees in Minnesota and around the world are facing, we must take time to celebrate the diversity of achievements and experiences they bring to our community.
The Twin Cities joins the thousands from around the world for World Refugee Day, who take time to recognize and applaud the lives and experiences of forcibly displaced people throughout the world. This year the festival will include:
Cultural performances from several Minnesotan refugee communities
An education panel including community leaders who will talk about the refugee experience in Minnesota and the many gifts refugees bring to the state
Children’s activities that celebrate the rich culture our community shares
A free soccer clinic run by players from Minnesota United FC
Food and crafts created by several refugee owned businesses and restaurants in the Twin Cities
Local Minnesota Photographer, James Bowey, and his project, When Home Won’t Let You Stay
A resource fair with information from over 40 refugee serving organizations
(Sunday) 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
