The Uptown Food Truck Festival will take place Sunday, June 23 from 11am-9pm and will feature more than 65 food trucks plus non-food trucks, and fun activities and entertainment for all ages. The event is free and open to the public, and will benefit charitable partner . The Uptown event is the first in a series of three summer festivals organized by the Minnesota Food Truck Festivals. The Anoka Food Truck Festival will take place Saturday, July 20 and the St. Paul Food Truck Festival will be Saturday, August 17. The Uptown Food Truck Festival debuted in 2013 and has grown to become the Upper Midwest’s largest food truck festival.
This year, the event will return to its original location, on Hennepin Avenue from Lake Street to 32nd Street, and on 31st Street from Humboldt Avenue to Girard Avenue.
The 2019 Minnesota Food Truck Festival series includes 18 new trucks, offering more diverse foods and many vegetarian and vegan options. The culinary mix will cover a wide range of global foods, from Bahn Mi, Poke Bowls and sambusas, to New Zealand meat pies, Belgian Liege-style waffles and all-day breakfast offerings and fish dishes. The non-food trucks include fashion trucks with clothing, jewelry, purses, and beachwear; a 25’ renovated Airstream trailer with a Mobile Men’s Salon offering haircuts, color, beard trims, and shoe shines; a vintage record truck in a renovated short bus selling vintage vinyl; a Photo Booth truck with classic photo strips; and a Mobile Escape Room in an enclosed trailer with a game that plays up to four people in 15-minute, 30-minute or 45-minute games.
In addition to an array of delectable savory and sweet foods and beverages, there will be activities including life-size Jenga, mechanical bull, bean bag toss, henna tattoo artists and a psychic tarot reader. Live musical acts and DJs will provide entertainment on two stages during the event, with performances by Shirts & Skins, Junk FM, and headliner You Oughta Know.
The beverage options have expanded and include wine, craft beer, Hard Cider and Spiked Seltzers as well as non-alcoholic choices. All proceeds from the 21+ alcoholic beverages wristband sales at each location will benefit . For every wristband sold, 4 meals will be provided to children in need around the globe. The 2018 Food Truck Festivals raised 100,000 meals and this year, organizers hope to raise even more. Each Food Truck Festival offers delicious food and beverages, live music, and outdoor games for all ages (as well as activities for four-legged family members).
“We’re looking forward to returning to Uptown with an even bigger variety of delicious culinary offerings,” said Food Truck Festival co-organizer Jess Jenkins, who is also executive director of the Minnesota Food Truck Association. “Our expanded roster of new food trucks and more global foods and vegetarian options ensures that there will be something for every taste. From great food and live music to fun activities for people and their pooches, the Uptown Food Truck Festival will be a fantastic way to welcome summer!”
