JOIN US IN SPEAKING OUT FOR KHALEEL AT THE CRYSTAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING! #Justice4Khaleel

On the morning of May 23, Khaleel Thompson was in the midst of a mental health crisis when was
shot over eighteen times by four Crystal cops. When police approached Khaleel in Basset Creek Park, they already knew of his mental illness from previous wellness checks, as recent as the evening before. The initial statements from the police claimed Khaleel has a gun and later admitted it was a toy. This toy posed no threat to the offers safety. Khaleel is in critical condition, fighting for his life, and the officers who attacked him are on paid leave. Officers Kathleen Gomez, Mason Barland, Brian Elfstrom, and Txheng Vang acting as a firing squad against the young man who need help. These officers uphold the system build on state sanctioned violence against black and brown people, including those suffering with mental illness.
This rally against police violence will be held on the corner of 42nd Avenue N. and Douglas Drive N., Crystal, MN. The rally will include speeches from Khaleel’s family and loved ones. We will also hear from family members of Marcus Golden and others who have lost loved ones to police violence and misconduct.
The People’s demands are: 1. release the dashboard and body camera footage and the ballistics report from the shooting to include which officers discharged their weapons; 2. charge officers Kathleen Gomez, Mason Barland, Brian Elfstrom, and Txheng Vang with attempted murder; 3. provide non-police, non-punitive options and resources for those experiencing a mental health crises.
Murderous behavior by the police is unacceptable. It is more dangerous and less acceptable than murder committed by a thug. A murderer with a badge is worse than any criminal. We cannot tolerate professional, state sanctioned killer. We must hold this murderous behavior to a higher standard not a lower one.
Join us as we rally against police misconduct, violence, and murder. The rally is a joint effort among the Anti-Police Terror Working Group of the General Defense Committee, Black Lives Matter St. Paul, Communities United Against Police Brutality, and the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar Clark.
