The difficulties young men of color are facing today are oppressive and often life threatening. From education to the justice system to stereotypes in media to discriminatory public policies, the environment many young men of color grow up in is not conducive to their psychic health or to their fulfilling their potential. Yet there are many young men of color who are succeeding despite the world around them and older men of color of who are helping them.
This panel, moderated by David Mura, will provide a dialogue between younger and older men of color about the conditions they face in the current political and social climate and the strategies they have used to survive, help others and help themselves. Panelists include Alexs Pate, Carter Meland, Ricardo Levins Morales, Kevin Yang, Yevrah Bradley and Suleiman Adan.
More Than a Single Story is a series of conversations curated by Carolyn Holbrook, inspired by Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s powerful TED talk, The Danger of a Single Story, showing how stereotypes are fostered when we treat one story of a people as their only story.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
