Event Details
You are cordially invited to the Mni Ki Wakan (Water is Sacred): From the Sacred Waters of Hawaii to Mnisota, in welcoming Halau Kiawekupono O Ka Ua: The Good Streak of Rain from Hawaii, as they come to share their extraordinary insights, songs, dances, and voices in the spirit of water with Mnisota and the surrounding water region.
“Mohala i ka wai ka maka o ka pua: The face of the flower blossoms because of the water. For us, the pua, or flowers, represent the people. The hidden meaning is: The people thrive when they have access to their source of water.”
Mni Ki Wakan: Water is Sacred, water connects us all. Now more than ever, it is paramount that indigenous voices begin to narrate the future of the world as it looks towards indigenous peoples for guidance.
Mni Ki Wakan, and Mde Maka Ska Community Conversations gives a special thanks to sponsors: Carleton College Public Works Mellon Grant, the Class of ’57 Visiting Scholar for Interdisciplinary Studies Fund, Religion Department, Asian Studies, and Studies in the Arts at Carleton College.
