The Line 3 pipeline would cut through the heart of northern Minnesota, passing within the watershed of 80 wild rice waters and crossing over 100 lakes, rivers, and streams. The threat of spills in these water-rich areas puts this project in violation of Indigenous treaty rights to hunt, fish, and gather in those lands – and five nations are legally intervening in an attempt to stop the pipeline. Line 3 would also transport 760,000 barrels per day of toxic tar sands oil, at a time when climate change requires a transition to cleaner forms of energy.
The Minnesota Poor People’s Campaign invites you to join faith leaders to state our clear opposition to Line 3 because of the harm it would do to the Anishinaabe people and the environment.
Join us as we gather at Leif Erickson Park for prayers, songs and speakers; we will then deliver a letter to Governor Dayton from Minnesota religious leaders of various traditions, before marching approx. 3/4 mile to the Public Utilities Commission for a rally/prayer vigil.
Are you a faith leader? We invite all faith leaders – rabbis, imams, priests, pastors, deacons, elders, and others – to sign this letter – http://mnipl.nationbuilder.com/line_3_faith_leaders
And we invite anyone and everyone to join us for the delivery on June 4th.
