Event Details

The Launching and Landing opening reception will feature a fundraiser of small art work on Oct. 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The show will run from October 1-29, 2016 to celebrate a diverse group of women artists on their journey to bridge social and cultural gaps and to overcome artistic challenges. By sharing knowledge, experience, and work; they have created a nourishing environment that enables each person to thrive.

The show represents the culmination of the 2015-2016 WARM Mentor program, which pairs emerging with professional women artists. Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota has been an ongoing supportive resource for women artists since the early 1970s. The artists featured in the show include both Protégées and their Mentors– working in different media and techniques — who came together to share their journey, explore the artistic unknown and undiscovered and to inspire and support each other.

The pieces on view explore immersive narratives of female artists: connections that grow from the inner self into the outside world; expressions and momentary imprints of the present; tactile, physical, sensual and mental experiences, as well as, symbolic references to vibrant cultures and mythological archetypes; irony, esthetics, age, everyday routine, nature, introspection… The works embody the artistic growth that has occurred during the two-year program. This art serves as evidence that these artists are overcoming their challenges, improved techniques and are taking on bolder moves until their next Launching and Landing.
