St. Paul, MN — Center for Hmong Arts and Talent (CHAT) presents the 11th annual Fresh Traditions Fashion Show (FTFS XI).
Fresh Traditions is a program of CHAT, which nurtures and develops Hmong artists in Fashion, and exhibits their creativity, originality and expressions. The program provides professional development and opportunities for designers, and culminates with a showcase in the annual fashion show.
This year’s show will share the work of four uniquely talented Hmong Women designers. Their distinct collections will surround this year’s main theme: Journey. Each piece down the runway will be an interpretation of what Journey means to the designers themselves.
Each year a challenge is posed to designers to create one ensemble in their collection that uses a combination of five traditional Hmong fabrics: black velvet, black satin, florescent pink chiffon, neon green chiffon, and royal blue satin. The challenge is a feature called the “required piece” and encourages Hmong designers to make “fresh” and contemporary interpretations of the traditional fabrics.
Since its inception, Fresh Traditions has presented and engaged over 1,000 artists including fashion designers, hair stylists, makeup artists, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, dancers, singers, comedians, set designers, actors and models.
