Our primary goal is to shape district policies and programs, in a culturally specific space that supports BLACK STUDENT EXCELLENCE & AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

*What are we saying*:
1. We are saying that Black children require educational opportunities that allow for the acceptance and use of the Black vernacular, unromanticized Black history, and restorative classroom practices through a cultural humility framework and equitable lens. (IMPROVE BLACK STUDENT OUTCOMES; CLOSE THE EDUCATIONAL GAP)
2. Adults are held accountable for the undereducation and over-disciplining of Black students. (IMPROVE EQUITY)
3. Facilitate shared decision making with Black families and encourage the input of Black families in policy, curricula, and budget at all phases of the process (STUDENT FAMILY & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT)
4. HIRE AND RETAIN BLACK TEACHERS AND EDUCATION LEADERS and balance the ratio of Black educators to Black learners for a quality teacher learning experience for Black professionals and Black families (EFFECTIVE TEACHERS, SCHOOL LEADERS, & STAFF)
5. Support the effective use of PTA’s & PTO’s to encourage the inclusion of Black parent participation & Black parent voices (Stewardship)
6. Support the Office of Black Male Student Achievement to include before and after school programming for black students with the sole goal of closing the achievement gap and shutting off the prison pipeline that research has shown exist for black students who attend public and charter schools. (RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS)

*What are we doing*:
1. We are rebuilding the momentum of the formerly known African American Parent Advisory Council.
2. We are parent ambassadors advocating for an adequate education for Black students.
3. We are a parent led and solution based group of adults who parent Black students and seek to increase the value of education among parents raising Black children.
4. We have actively involved parents of Black students who are advocating for Black parent involvement, Black parent inclusion, and Black parent engagement through education, advocacy, and application.
5. We are creating healing centered spaces for parents of Black children who need to vent, express experiences of trauma, and build. We are releasing frustration and learning various skills that support effective advocacy for the proper and practical education of BLACK STUDENT EXCELLENCE & AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
