The 2019 Somali Week Festival Presented By Amazon will be an outdoor celebration to commemorate Somali culture and tradition. This has always been a memorable day for Somalis living here in the United States to celebrate their nations independence and to celebrate the country we now call our new home.
Somali Week is the Minnesota Somali community’s largest celebration of the year. Consisting of the Somali Independence Day Festival, Xasuuso (Remember) 1960 and a young Somali professionals networking event. Somali Week is a week-long event from June 29, 2019 to July 6, 2019 hosted in various locations across the Twin Cities. The theme of Somali Week is Promoting Diversity through Unity and Inclusion. Over the years, this event has grown from one block to three blocks with a diverse crowd of over thousands festival goers.
This event will encompass three blocks of Lake St, one of the busiest streets in Minneapolis, between Blaisdell Ave and Stevens Ave. Appropriately adjacent to the largest Somali Mall in Minnesota. This festival will be held from 11:00am through 9:00pm. Throughout the day festival goers will experience live music featuring local, national and international artists, art gallery exhibits, live animals, and authentic Somali food as well as activities for children of all ages.
