Ellison endorses Madia in Dem race for Ramstad’s seat

With a polite nod in the direction of Terri Bonoff, US Rep Keith Ellison this morning endorsed the Third District Congressional candidacy of Ashwin Madia. Ellison’s media release took pains to wrap Madia, an Iraq War vet, in the anti-politics-as-usual mantle of Obama: “Like Senator Obama, Ashwin Madia is a voice for change from the politics of the past. And like Senator Obama, Ashwin has mobilized voters across generational, economic, educational, gender and racial divides. He has forcefully brought delegates from all walks of life together with a singular purpose of bringing common-sense progressivism to the Third District.”

It’s the highest-level endorsement that Madia has received to date. Other notables who are formally in his camp: SEIU, the service employees’ union; current state Senators Mee Moua and Satveer Chaudhary; and former state Senator and DNR commissioner Gene Merriam.
