Director: JOHAN KLING

Former TV producer Kling’s debut feature garnered two Golden Beetle Awards (the Swedish Oscar equivalent) and nominations for four more. Spoiled Stockholm kid Eva, 24, is having a bad time of it, having recently lost her job, her boyfriend and access to her bourgois mother’s cash flow.

Elsewhere in the city, sixty-something, engineer Bernard is trying to pull his life together after a difficult divorce. As rents go sky high, forcing Bernard and Eva both to grudgingly accept low-level jobs at McDonald’s, they form an unlikely bond that will lead to some unexpected self-discovery as in a film noir “about trivialities” says the 47-year-old director.

Darling was named 2007’s Best Swedish film by the Swedish Association of Film Critics. “The best Jane Austen story that Austen never penned… a fascinating dual character study that is bracing in its observations, tender in its compassion and, finally, transcendent in its unexpected power.” – TLA Video
