To the delight of library staff and their loyal patrons, Roosevelt, Southeast and Webber Park public libraries reopened on Thursday, January 3. ‘It’s great to be back,’ exulted Eric Heideman, Southeast’s librarian. In all three libraries, within the first hour of doors opening at noon, patrons were using the services.

Amy and Sarah Monson are not backing down from their assertion that a failure to grant the couple a family membership at the Rochester Athletic Club is discrimination. On Dec. 31st, the couple filed papers with the Olmsted County District Court to start the appeal of a November lower court decision that found the policies of the fitness club legal under Minnesota law.

Jonathan Palmer last month wrapped up his assignment at Minneapolis Empowerment Zone, using up accrued vacation to ramp up his campaign for the DFL endorsement for House seat 58A. Palmer will challenge incumbent Joe Mullery, and school board member, Peggy Flanagan at the DFL precinct caucuses February 5th.

In an apparent effort to reach out to the African community in the Twin Cities, Books For Africa, the St. Paul-based non-profit organization that sends donated books to Africa, appointed Mshale president and publisher, Tom Gitaa, to its board of directors.
