What’s your job?
“I’m one of four founding partners of Zeus Jones, a super-kickass modern branding agency. My job consists of drafting off the talent and intelligence of those around me.”
Other than your job, what are your claims to fame?
“I dunno if I have any. I was ‘local famous’ for about an hour in 1999 when my old band Astronaut Wife were popular on Radio K for a few days one summer and we won the Picked To Click poll in City Pages. I played in some other bands too, like Judgement of Paris in the late 80s, and I currently sing in a six-piece rock outfit called Blue Sky Blackout and have some other projects that no one has ever heard of. Also I helped Ed Ackerson and Jennifer Jurgens re-launch the Susstones record label in the early 2000s and we put out some cool records by some cool bands that I liked a lot.”
What’s your relationship status?
“I’m married to the lovely/talented/hilarious Janey Winterbauer. She’s also a singer, and an infamously entertaining Internet persona.”
Where are you most likely to be seen?
“I’m a huge fan and supporter of local music, so I’m likely to be at one of our city’s finest rock-and-roll-related clubs like 7th Street Entry, Cause, the Hexagon, the Turf, 331, etc. And any place I can get a great cocktail made with whiskey—American—including Cafe Maude, Lucia’s Wine Bar, Muddy Waters, Bradstreet, and Red Stag. And at Clubhouse Jäger, especially on their Tuesday SciFi movie night hosted by some friends of mine. During the day I see a lot of people at Common Roots, an awesome organic cafe by my office with the coolest staff in the universe.”
Where are you least likely to be seen?
“Not too many places I’d avoid in this town.”
With whom are you most likely to be seen?
“In order of likelihood I’d say:
1. My wife.
2. One or both of my hilarious children.
3. Someone I am currently in a band with.
4. Someone I used to be in a band with.
5. Someone from a band/magazine/blog/art collective/record label/drinking establishment/advertising agency that I admire.”
Where were you born?
“Mobile, Alabama. A town no one knew anything about until BP started running ads for Gulf Coast tourism. Thanks, BP!”
What neighborhood do you live in now?
“On the flight path between Diamond Lake and Nokomis.”
What’s your ride?
“A 2007 VW GTI. One of the best small cars of all time. I just put winter tires on it for the first time in my entire life, and I can heartily endorse this practice.”
What’s the best way for someone to start a conversation with you?
“With a line of dialogue from Robocop.”
